Puget Sound Solar Joins IBEW Local 46
Starting Monday, Puget Sound Solar is officially a signatory contractor with IBEW Local 46, the electrical workers’ union serving Western Washington. It’s a milestone we’re proud of, and one that benefits every customer we work with, from homeowners going solar to the general contractors who bring us on as a sub.
What It Means
Signatory status is a formal agreement to staff our electrical work with IBEW Local 46 members, electricians who’ve completed a standardized apprenticeship rather than a patchwork of on-the-job experience. For our customers, that means consistent training standards, a deeper labor pool as demand for solar, storage, and EV charging grows, and eligibility on prevailing wage and PLA-covered projects that were previously out of reach. This furthers our commitment to workforce development, and making living wage jobs in the clean energy industry available to more people.
Why It Matters for Commercial Work
We already work across residential, commercial, and storage installations, and our EV Support division handles commercial EV charger installs. On the commercial side, general contractors and owners increasingly require subs who meet Washington’s Public Works Act prevailing wage rules, or the labor provisions tied to the enhanced ITC under the IRA for clean energy projects over 1 MW AC. It also plugs us into the broader apprenticeship pipeline the union maintains, which the industry needs more of as the clean energy build-out accelerates.

Residential Rebate!
Homeowners living in King, Jefferson, Kitsap and Clallam counties are eligible for a $1,000 rebate for systems up to 5kW, and $2,000 for systems larger than 5kW.
