As if to underscore our opposition to coal exports on the west coast, a massive freighter crashed through the coal conveyer system at Westshore sending the structure and its 30 ton load of coal crashing into the Georgia Strait on Friday night.  We are all acquainted with oil spills, but who knew that we were at risk for spills of this sort from coal?  The plume that is visible in the photo is coal dust which contains mercury, lead, arsenic, and other heavy metals.

If you can, please show up at the hearing on Dec 13th at the Washington Convention Center, Ballroom 6F, doors open at 3:30, hearing is from 4:00 – 7:00.  You can make your opinion known by staying for the entire hearing, or by simply filling out a postcard.

Thanks!
