Our abundant rainfall each year benefits Washingtonians by providing clean, renewable hydropower however the fuel mixture is changing with the mandated removal of coal-generated electricity by 2025.
In the next several years, Electrical Utilities in our state have to address how they will fill-in the missing generation provided by coal. An additional consideration is the push for removing the four Snake River dams (in order to restore salmon habitats) and how to replace the hydropower energy they produce.
Wind, solar and energy storage, (batteries, pumped hydro) will be significant contributors as the cost of solar is now lower than other forms of energy.
