The Climate Crisis is accelerating our transition from toxic fossil fuels to clean renewable energy. As part of this paradigm shift, it’s important we protect the planet when solar panels and batteries reach the end of their life cycle. The good news is that most of the components in both products are recyclable and companies are developing systems to handle these materials, so they don’t end up in the landfill.

Li-Cycle and Renewance announced a partnership focusing on the recycling of lithium-ion batteries at their end-of-life, an important step toward a cleaner planet for future generation. They will have “Spoke” facilities that break down the batteries and “Hub” locations that will take the recycled materials and refine new battery-grade materials.

Solar installations with battery storage (residential, commercial, Utility) as well as electric vehicles all rely upon lithium-based batteries so there will be plenty of materials to work with as solar PV systems and EV’s take over our electrical grid and roads.

All part of a carbon emissions-free way to power our world.
