The Big Beautiful Bill Passed. Here’s What That Means for Solar—and for Us.

On July 4, 2025, President Trump signed into law the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” effectively ending the residential solar tax credit (25D) after this year and introducing new restrictions on clean energy manufacturing incentives. While the solar industry braces for a slowdown, we at Puget Sound Solar remain firmly committed to our customers, our community, and our mission.

This isn’t the first time solar has faced headwinds, and it won’t be the last.

We installed our first system in 2001—long before there were tax credits or net metering, and when Seattle electricity was less than half of today’s rates. We were here then, and we’ll be here long after the headlines fade.

The reality is that while this bill may slow things down in the U.S., it doesn’t stop the global march toward solar energy. China is accelerating its dominance in solar manufacturing and deployment, thanks in part to the vacuum of leadership created by this bill. In choosing to cut support for distributed energy, Trump has handed over the future of clean energy to our global competitors.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world is racing forward.

But even here at home, solar still makes sense. Rising electricity prices, no sales tax on solar in Washington, and the ongoing benefits of net metering continue to make solar one of the smartest long-term investments for homeowners and businesses alike. And Puget Sound Solar is ready to help you design a custom system that fits your needs, values, and budget.

The Big Beautiful Bill may be a setback for American solar leadership, but it doesn’t change the underlying truth: the future is solar. And we’ll keep showing up—one install, one customer, and one roof at a time.
